KT plans to deploy 30,000 network stations across South Korea to support its 5G services launch. The operator plans to commercially introduce its 5G services in early April, Yonhap news agency reports. KT has announced it has deployed 5G connectivity in areas where there are large concentrations of people, such as 464 universities, shopping malls and department stores. “We plan to set up the 5G network in 85 major cities by the end of the year”, KT said. The operator has also deployed its 5G network across major express ways and railroads.

“We have already built 15,000 5G base stations in Seoul. We are in the final stages of commercializing the 5G service”, said Oh Seong-mok, president of KT’s network division. The statement was made at a press conference at KT’s headquarters in central Seoul. “Until the launching of 5G services on April 5, we will build a total of 30,000 5G base stations”, said Seo Chang-seok, head of KT’s network strategy unit. “We will be able to have up to 80 percent nationwide coverage with 5G in 2019. We will especially focus on enabling users to access 5G services inside the buildings.”

KT plans to release 5G services pricing details next week.
