South Korean operator KT has delivered 5G mobile network service on a specially rigged bus in central Seoul, Yonhap news agency reports. The 10-seater bus allows passengers to access virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) services through the 5G network.

KT launched the bus service on 14 January, with the bus traversing an 8 km route that leaves from Gwanghwamun Station five times a day. “Customer response has been tremendous as the trial bus was operated to relieve the curiosity over what can be done during a 5G era”, a KT representative said.

The bus is equipped with VR headsets that offer live multi-channels in real-time with a 360 degree viewing angle. Contents range from K-pop dramas to music. Users can also access contents without streaming interruptions or slowdown in internet speeds on a moving vehicle.

The bus will run until 24 January and will operate another route in Gangnam, southern Seoul, between 25 January and 2 February, KT said, adding that all the tickets for the seats have been sold. “Customers will be able to experience better 5G when KT officially kicks off 5G B2C service in March”, the company representative also said.
