Huawei hopes to bring out the world’s first 5G TV this year, the Nikkei reported, adding the company also wants to position itself within the coming three years among the top five PC makers in the world television. With these goals, Huawei wants to provide a complete ecosystem of consumer electronics, from smartphones to wearable devices. The goals would put it in direct competition with Samsung and Apple in these segments, as well as NHK, LG, Sharp, TCL and Hisense for TVs and Acer and Asustek for PCs, among others.

Huawei to develop 5G TV, also as router hub

Sources said the TVs will come with a 5G module and a high-end 8K resolution display. This will enable the download of data-heavy content and give people 360 degree videos and virtual reality programmes. The TV would not require fibre or cable boxes and could also act as a router hub for all other electronic devices in a home.

Huawei developing own processing units for PCs

Regarding the production of PCs, Huawei is aiming to triple shipments in that segment this year. The company uses Intel chips for its laptops but is also developing its own central processing units, or CPUs, for its computer product line.
