Cosmote said its 5G test network achieved live speeds above 12Gbps, 60 times higher than today’s 4G/LTE speeds. The test was conducted in an open space of the Municipality of Zografou, where Cosmote is developing a 5G pilot network. Through innovative applications implemented in cooperation with Ericsson and Nokia, Cosmote presented the unlimited possibilities that the 5G networks bring.
The demonstration was attended by the Minister of Digital Policy, Telecommunications and Information, Nikos Pappas, the Secretary General of Telecommunications and Post, Vasilis Maglara and the Mayor of Zografou, Tina Kafatsaki, in the presence of the chairman and managing director of the OTE Group, Michael Tsamaz and representatives of the academic community. In particular, Cosmote demonstrated ‘Internet of skills’ for simulating medical intervention from a distance through a VR headset (VR); hologram-based real-time conversations between people who were in different places; use of 5G real time automation and robotic collaboration to balance a ball; a 360 ° live feed at 4K resolution via virtual reality, as well as a real-time virtual reality (VR) shootout.
