BlackBerry has announced the launch of a new platform called Spark, described as the only Enterprise of Things (EoT) platform designed and built for ultra-secure hyperconnectivity. Unveiled at the company’s Security Summit in London, the new platform will be rolled out by the end of the year, enabling businesses to scale their existing infrastructure to securely manage, connect, and use ‘things’ – including the applications and data they transmit – in new and existing workflows.

It will also allow OEMs to bring to market secure IoT devices, while at the same time help users realise significant productivity gains while maintaining high-security and regulatory compliance. “From the office to the factory, we’re proud to be the only company that can provide a single platform to help organizations rapidly build and deploy innovative new solutions for their customers,” said BlackBerry’s chief technology officer Charles Eagan at the launch.

New software and services announced as part of BlackBerry Spark include contextual device management for AWS IoT, manufacturing services for IoT device OEMs, expanded Bridge capabilities, UEM notifications, a secure global messaging directory, iManage integration with BlackBerry Workspaces, IoT Mashups, intelligent transport systems and Spark Intelligent Security, a new service to create digital identities based on continuous, contextual authentication.

BlackBerry added that Spark has been specifically built for ultra-security and industry-specific safety-certifications, such as ISO 26262 in automobiles. As an open and extensible platform, it will ship ready to “snap-in” IoT and other solutions from partners including AWS, Baidu, Google, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Qualcomm and Samsung.
