Spain’s Libelium has teamed up with Ericsson to integrate NB-IoT (narrowband Internet of Things) connectivity in its wireless sensor platform. The partners will be presenting two NB-IoT development kits to enable proof of concepts at the forthcoming MWC 2019 in Barcelona. In a statement, Libelium said the kits will allow developers to easily test the technology and accelerate IoT adoption thanks to an open source API.
The NB-IoT connectivity has been integrated via a module manufactured by Quectel, which incorporates LTE-Cat-M and even current GPRS networks to ensure fallback when deployed in rural areas with low NB-IoT network coverage. Libelium added that it’s working in collaboration with Ericsson to make the new NB-IoT connectivity compatible with the LWM2M protocol used by Swedish vendor.
